On Sunday April 27, vocalist/pianist Andy Bey transitioned. In tribute, Excursions presented Art’s archival interview, including rare tracks and the spoken and sung thoughts of Andy Bey.
His contributions were delineated by his immediately identifiable sound, and a profusion of original compositions that reflected the social and cultural milieu within which he performed.
After being accompanied by his sisters Salome and Geraldine early on, Andy later performed with several Jazz icons. His bass-baritone voice became easily identifiable by its range, ascending through four octaves into a tenor falsetto.
