Interview and Music from Jon Hendricks presented by Art Cromwell

Jon Hendricks (b. Newark OH) was raised in Toledo where he began his singing career in the 40s. Influenced by the early vocalise rendition of James Moody’s “Mood for Love,” credited to King Pleasure, and Eddie Jefferson, Jon would develop into one of the foremost proponents of vocalise, an idiom particular to Jazz.

Jon, along with Dave Lambert went on to create the seminal vocal trio Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross, which became one of the most profound exemplars of this song form.

Jon Hendricks of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross was born in 1921 in Newark, Ohio, U.S.A.
